A deck focused on controlling the board and gaining life would benefit from including Engulfing Slagwurm, especially in a green-heavy deck. While Engulfing Slagwurm's ability to destroy creatures and gain life can be powerful in certain situations, there are better options available such as Terastodon or Avenger of Zendikar which offer more versatile and impactful abilities. Engulfing Slagwurm could see play in a casual or themed deck, but in competitive settings, there are more efficient cards to consider.

Even if the ability of an attacking Engulfing Slagwurm destroys each creature blocking it, Engulfing Slagwurm won’t deal combat damage to the player or planeswalker it’s attacking unless it somehow gains trample.
