About Consul's Shieldguard

Consul's Shieldguard, Creature — dwarf soldier, designed by David Gaillet first released in Sep, 2016 in the set Kaladesh.

Consul's Shieldguard would be beneficial in a white energy-based aggro deck in Magic: the Gathering, as it provides energy counters upon entering the battlefield and offers a way to protect attacking creatures by granting them indestructible. While it can be a solid inclusion in such a deck, there are potentially better options like Adanto Vanguard or Dauntless Bodyguard that offer more immediate value or protection. Whether Consul's Shieldguard should see play would depend on the specific strategy and synergy of the deck in question.

Energy counters aren’t mana. They don’t go away as steps, phases, and turns end, and effects that add mana “of any type” to your mana pool can’t give you energy counters.

Keep careful track of how many energy counters each player has. You may do so by keeping a running count on paper, by using a die, or by any other clear and mutually agreeable method.

Some triggered abilities state that you “may pay” a certain amount of . You can’t pay that amount multiple times to multiply the effect. You simply choose whether or not to pay that amount of as the ability resolves, and no player may take actions to try to stop the ability’s effect after you make your choice.
