About Banefire

Banefire, Sorcery, designed by Raymond Swanland first released in Feb, 2009 in the set Conflux and was printed exactly in 9 different ways.

A deck that focuses on dealing direct damage or controlling the board would benefit from including Banefire, especially in a red-based aggressive or burn deck. While Banefire's ability to deal uncounterable damage can be powerful, other cards like Lightning Bolt or Skewer the Critics may offer more efficient and versatile options for similar effects. Banefire could see play as a finisher in decks looking to close out games quickly or as a way to bypass counterspells in control matchups.

Rules

07/13/18

If its target is illegal by the time Banefire tries to resolve, the spell isn’t countered, but it doesn’t resolve. The target won’t be dealt damage.

07/13/18

To determine whether it can be countered and its damage can be prevented, Banefire checks the number you chose for X, not the amount of mana you actually spent or the amount of damage it will actually deal.
