Selkie Hedge-Mage would be a great addition to a Simic (Green/Blue) deck focused on controlling the board and gaining incremental advantages. Its ability to gain life and bounce a tapped creature can help you stabilize against aggressive strategies while maintaining tempo. However, in a competitive setting, there are more efficient options available such as Coiling Oracle or Mystic Snake, which offer better value for their cost and impact on the game. Selkie Hedge-Mage could see play in casual or budget decks, but may struggle to find a spot in more optimized competitive decks.

Each of the triggered abilities has an “intervening ‘if’ clause.” That means (1) the ability won’t trigger at all unless you control two or more lands of the appropriate land type when the Hedge-Mage enters the battlefield, and (2) the ability will do nothing if you don’t control two or more lands of the appropriate land type by the time it resolves.

Each of the triggered abilities look at your lands individually. This means that if you only control two dual-lands of the appropriate types, both of the abilities will trigger.
