A deck focused on disrupting the opponent's hand size and resources, such as a discard or control deck, would benefit from Painful Quandary as it puts pressure on the opponent to either lose life or discard cards. While Painful Quandary can be effective in certain situations, there are better cards like Liliana's Caress or Waste Not that provide more consistent value in discard-focused strategies. Overall, Painful Quandary could see play in specific metas or sideboard situations, but may not be a top choice for competitive play.
