About Bloodfire Expert

Bloodfire Expert, Creature — efreet monk, designed by Raymond Swanland first released in Sep, 2014 in the set Khans of Tarkir and was printed exactly in 3 different ways.

The Bloodfire Expert would be a great addition to a red aggressive deck that focuses on casting a lot of noncreature spells to trigger its prowess ability and pump it up. While it's a solid card for such a strategy, there are potentially better options like Monastery Swiftspear or Soul-Scar Mage that offer more versatility and impact in the current metagame, so Bloodfire Expert may not see as much play in competitive decks.

Rules

09/20/14

Any spell you cast that doesn’t have the type creature will cause prowess to trigger. If a spell has multiple types, and one of those types is creature (such as an artifact creature), casting it won’t cause prowess to trigger. Playing a land also won’t cause prowess to trigger.

09/20/14

Once it triggers, prowess isn’t connected to the spell that caused it to trigger. If that spell is countered, prowess will still resolve.
