About Baloth Woodcrasher

Baloth Woodcrasher, Creature — beast, designed by Zoltan Boros & Gabor Szikszai first released in Oct, 2009 in the set Zendikar and was printed exactly in 7 different ways.

A deck focused on ramping up lands quickly, such as a landfall or ramp deck, would benefit greatly from including Baloth Woodcrasher as it can become a powerful threat with its ability to grow and gain trample whenever a land enters the battlefield. However, there are potentially better options like Avenger of Zendikar, which creates a larger army of tokens, or Rampaging Baloths, which generates more consistent landfall triggers. Baloth Woodcrasher could still see play in a deck looking for a midrange threat with trample, but it may not be a top-tier choice in competitive environments.

Rules

10/01/09

The landfall ability triggers whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control for any reason. It triggers whenever you play a land, as well as whenever a spell or ability (such as Rampant Growth) causes you to put a land onto the battlefield under your control. It will even trigger when a spell or ability causes another player to put a land onto the battlefield under your control (as can happen with Yavimaya Dryad’s ability, for example).
