David Zayas

David Zayas is a Puerto Rican-American actor whose career combines television recognition with years of public-service experience. He was born on August 31, 1962, in Puerto Rico, and grew up in the Bronx, New York. Before becoming a full-time performer, Zayas worked as a New York City police officer. That background gave him direct familiarity with the city's streets, institutions, and working-class communities that frequently appear in his roles. Zayas became widely known as Detective Sergeant Enrique "Angel" Batista on Showtime's Dexter, which premiered in 2006. Across the show's eight seasons, Batista investigates murders, manages changing police relationships, and remains one of Dexter's empathetic colleagues.
