Whip-Spine Drake could be a useful addition to a blue-based control deck that focuses on stalling the game with flying creatures while setting up a win condition. However, there are likely better options available in the same mana cost range that offer more impactful abilities or synergies with the deck's strategy. Overall, Whip-Spine Drake may not see much play in competitive Magic: The Gathering decks due to its relatively high casting cost and lack of standout abilities compared to other options.

If Whip-Spine Drake is face down and blocked by a creature without flying, turning it face up won’t cause it to become unblocked or stop the blocking creature from dealing combat damage to it.
