About Ophidian

Ophidian, Creature — snake, designed by Cliff Nielsen first released in Jun, 1997 in the set Weatherlight and was printed exactly in 8 different ways.

This card would be beneficial in a control deck that focuses on drawing cards and maintaining card advantage. While Ophidian's ability to draw a card when unblocked is useful, it comes with the drawback of not dealing combat damage that turn. A better alternative could be cards like Thieving Magpie or Mulldrifter, which provide card advantage without the restriction on dealing combat damage. Ophidian could see play in casual or budget decks, but competitive decks would likely opt for more efficient card-drawing options.

Rules

04/15/13

An ability that triggers when something “attacks and isn’t blocked” triggers in the declare blockers step after blockers are declared if (1) that creature is attacking and (2) no creatures are declared to block it. It will trigger even if that creature was put onto the battlefield attacking rather than having been declared as an attacker in the declare attackers step.
