Caves of Koilos, Land, designed by Jim Nelson first released in Jun, 2001 in the set Apocalypse and was printed exactly in 20 different ways. It see play in 1 formats: Commander.
The Caves of Koilos card would be beneficial in a deck that requires both white and black mana sources, such as an Orzhov (white-black) deck in Magic: the Gathering. The ability to produce both white and black mana makes it versatile, but the drawback of dealing 1 damage to the player can be a downside in aggressive strategies. Other dual lands like Godless Shrine may be preferred in some cases, but Caves of Koilos could still see play in decks that require its specific color combination and are willing to pay the life cost for the flexibility it offers.
