A deck that focuses on direct damage and controlling the board could benefit from including Boulderfall, as it provides a versatile way to deal damage to multiple targets. However, in a competitive setting, there are more efficient options like Banefire or Earthquake that offer better value for the mana cost. Boulderfall could see play in casual or budget decks where versatility is valued over raw power, but in more competitive environments, it may be overshadowed by stronger alternatives.

If an effect creates a copy of Boulderfall, the division of damage and number of targets can’t be changed. The effect that creates the copy may allow you to change targets, however.

You divide the damage as you cast the spell, not as it resolves. Each target must be assigned at least 1 damage.
