Render Speechless fits best in Orzhov (white-black) midrange or control decks that want hand disruption plus incremental board advantage, especially in slower Standard or Pioneer-style formats where a two-for-one effect can swing tempo and resources; it’s particularly appealing in decks that care about +1/+1 counters (such as Abzan counters shells) or that use creatures with lifelink, evasion, or sacrifice value to maximize the counters. That said, at three mana it competes with much more efficient discard like Thoughtseize (one mana, hits anything) or Duress (one mana, noncreature), and for three mana you also have powerful options like Liliana of the Veil or Wedding Announcement in white-black shells, which often generate more consistent value; even in Standard-level power bands, three-mana hand disruption without additional card advantage is usually below rate.
