NCT 127

NCT 127 is a Seoul-based subunit of SM Entertainment's larger NCT project, and its name joins "Neo Culture Technology" with Seoul's longitude, 127 degrees east. It officially debuted on July 7, 2016, with NCT #127, its debut mini-album. Its first single, "Fire Truck," mixed hip-hop, bass-heavy production, and Latin-inspired percussion, establishing the forceful performance identity later associated with 127. The first release also included "Mad City," written by members Taeyong and Mark, and "Paradise," highlighting the unit's vocal side. NCT 127 expanded its membership and profile through "Limitless" in January 2017, adding Johnny and Doyoung to the promoted lineup. "Cherry Bomb," released that June, became a signature track, especially for its choreography and distinctive minimalist music video. The 2018 album Regular-Irregular marked a turning point. Its title track "Regular" appeared in Korean and English versions, while "Simon Says" supplied another recognizable 127 era. Winwin subsequently focused on NCT's China-based unit WayV after 127 activities in Seoul. NCT 127's first full album, Regular-Irregular, preceded a U.S. breakthrough in 2019. The reissued album Regulate included "Simon Says," and the group toured America on the Neo City - The Origin tour, performing in Los Angeles, New York, and Toronto alike. In 2020, NCT 127 released Neo Zone, whose lead single "Kick It" became a recognized track. The album reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200, giving the group its highest U.S. chart position and its martial-arts imagery shaped the era. That momentum continued with Sticker in 2021, NCT 127's third studio album. Its title song divided listeners with a flute-led arrangement, yet the record debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. The repackaged Favorite added a romantic title track. In 2022, the group issued 2 Baddies, its fourth studio album, and followed it with a world tour under the Neo City banner. The album's title track reached No. 3 on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart, continuing 127's sound. NCT 127 celebrated its seventh anniversary in 2023 with Fact Check, a full album featuring the title track "Fact Check." Its Seoul concerts at KSPO Dome formed part of Neo City - The Unity. The members' roles remain visible in the group's work: Taeyong and Mark contribute rap writing, while Taeil, Doyoung, Jaehyun, and Haechan anchor vocal performances. In 2024, Taeyong departed for military service, and NCT 127 continued activities with releases and concerts.
