Kim So-hyun

Kim So-hyun is a South Korean actress born on June 4, 1999, in Australia. She moved to South Korea with her family when she was young and entered television as a child performer. Her acting debut came in the 2006 KBS Drama City installment “Ten-Minute Minor,” after which she continued appearing in Korean dramas and films. She became especially recognizable through historical and melodramatic child roles, rather than through a single early breakout.

In MBC’s 2012 hit period drama The Moon Embracing the Sun, she played the younger Yoon Bo-kyung, the character later portrayed by Kim Min-seo. That same year, she played young Lee Soo-yeon in I Miss You, the trauma-marked heroine whose adult version was played by Yoon Eun-hye. The role brought her the Best Child Actress prize at the 2012 MBC Drama Awards.

Kim’s first major television lead came with KBS2’s 2015 school drama Who Are You: School 2015. She handled its central double role: bullied Lee Eun-bi and her amnesiac twin, swimmer Go Eun-byeol. The series paired her with Nam Joo-hyuk and Yook Sung-jae and became a prominent entry in the School franchise.

Her subsequent work has moved between historical romance, contemporary fantasy, and thriller-inflected stories. In Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, also known as Goblin, she made a brief but memorable appearance as the Queen, the ill-fated wife of Wang Yeo. In 2017, she led Ruler: Master of the Mask as Han Ga-eun, opposite Yoo Seung-ho. In 2019’s The Tale of Nokdu, she played Dong Dong-ju, an aspiring musician hiding a violent past, alongside Jang Dong-yoon’s cross-dressing protagonist.

Netflix’s Love Alarm gave Kim an international streaming showcase as Kim Jo-jo, a student caught between Hwang Sun-oh and Lee Hye-yeong in a world where a phone app signals nearby romantic attraction. She returned for the show’s second season in 2021. That year she assumed the lead in River Where the Moon Rises after original star Ji Soo was removed from the production; Kim filmed a replacement performance and early episodes were reshot.

In My Lovely Liar (2023), she portrayed Mok Sol-hee, whose supernatural ability lets her detect lies, opposite Hwang Min-hyun as a composer shielding his identity. In 2024, she starred in Serendipity’s Embrace as animation producer Lee Hong-ju, alongside actor Chae Jong-hyeop. Her career now spans child roles and sustained adult television leads in Korea.
