Camila Cabello

Camila Cabello is a Cuban-American singer and songwriter who first became widely known as a member of Fifth Harmony, the girl group formed on the second season of The X Factor USA in 2012. Born Karla Camila Cabello Estrabao in Cojimar, Cuba, she moved between Cuba and Mexico before settling with her mother in Miami, Florida, at age six. She later became a U.S. citizen in 2008. Fifth Harmony, completed by Ally Brooke, Normani, Dinah Jane, and Lauren Jauregui, achieved major pop success with songs including “Worth It” and “Work from Home.” Cabello began pursuing solo work while still in the group. Her 2016 collaboration with Machine Gun Kelly, “Bad Things,” reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100. In December 2016, she announced that she had left Fifth Harmony. Her first solo single, “Crying in the Club,” arrived in 2017, but her commercial breakthrough came with “Havana,” featuring Young Thug. The song topped charts in several countries, became a number-one single in the United Kingdom, and reached number one on the Billboard Pop Songs chart in the United States. Her debut album, Camila, was released in January 2018 and entered the Billboard 200 at number one. Alongside “Havana,” it included “Never Be the Same,” which became another major international hit. In 2019, Cabello partnered with Shawn Mendes on “Senorita.” The song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. That same year, she released her second album, Romance, featuring singles such as “Liar,” “Shameless,” “My Oh My,” and “Living Proof.” Cabello expanded into acting by playing the title character in Kay Cannon’s 2021 musical film Cinderella, released by Amazon Studios. She also contributed music to the film, including “Million to One.” Her third studio album, Familia, arrived in 2022 and drew on her Cuban and Mexican heritage in both its title and musical direction. Its lead single, “Don’t Go Yet,” incorporated Latin-pop and salsa-influenced elements, while “Bam Bam,” featuring Ed Sheeran, became a global hit and received a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. In 2024, Cabello released C, XOXO, her fourth studio album. The project marked a stylistic shift toward electronic, dance, and hyperpop-adjacent production, with tracks including “I LUV IT” featuring Playboi Carti and “He Knows” featuring Lil Nas X. Across her career, Cabello has moved from ensemble pop to a solo catalog shaped by mainstream pop, Latin influences, and collaborations with artists from several genres.
