ENHYPEN

ENHYPEN is a South Korean boy group formed through the 2020 survival program I-LAND, a collaboration between BELIFT LAB, CJ ENM, and HYBE. The final lineup consists of Jungwon, Heeseung, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo, and Ni-ki. The group debuted on November 30, 2020, with the mini album BORDER: DAY ONE and its lead single “Given-Taken.” The album introduced a recurring theme of crossing boundaries while adjusting to a new identity and public life. ENHYPEN’s early releases developed a connected narrative. BORDER: CARNIVAL, released in April 2021, included “Drunk-Dazed,” a song associated with the excitement and disorientation of sudden fame. The group continued its BORDER series with the October 2021 studio album DIMENSION: DILEMMA, led by “Tamed-Dashed.” Its repackage, DIMENSION: ANSWER, followed in January 2022 and featured “Blessed-Cursed.” These releases helped establish the group’s interest in contrasting choices, desire, temptation, and uncertainty rather than relying only on conventional love-song themes. The group’s vampire-inspired fiction is strongly associated with its music videos and the HYBE webtoon DARK MOON: THE BLOOD ALTAR, which features members represented as characters in a supernatural story. This concept is separate from the members’ real biographies, but it has influenced ENHYPEN’s visual identity and promotional storytelling. In 2022, ENHYPEN released the mini album MANIFESTO: DAY 1, whose title track “Future Perfect (Pass the MIC)” presented a more assertive message about rejecting predetermined expectations. The 2023 mini album DARK BLOOD included “Bite Me,” returning to imagery connected with its vampire mythology. ORANGE BLOOD, released later that year, contained “Sweet Venom” and continued the group’s use of dramatic, serialized concepts. ENHYPEN has also expanded its international activity through tours and Japanese releases. Its Japanese debut single, “BORDER: Hakanai,” arrived in 2021, and the group later released Japanese studio albums such as Sadame. In 2023, ENHYPEN performed at Lollapalooza in Chicago, marking a major United States festival appearance. The group has received awards from Korean and international music programs, while its albums have achieved prominent placements on global sales and chart rankings. Rather than being formed through a traditional trainee-only process, ENHYPEN’s identity began with televised competition and developed through carefully connected albums, performance-focused choreography, and a distinctive fictional universe. Its career combines Korean and Japanese releases, ambitious touring, and an evolving narrative about youth, identity, and choices.
