Kim Hye-jun

Kim Hye-jun, born on May 8, 1995, is a South Korean actor known for sharply contrasting roles in Sky Castle, Kingdom, Inspector Koo, and A Shop for Killers. Her breakout came with JTBC's Sky Castle, which aired from 2018 to 2019. She portrayed Kang Ye-seo, the academically driven daughter of Han Seo-jin and Kang Joon-sang. Set among affluent families obsessed with medical-school admissions, the drama makes Ye-seo's pressure and ambition central to its critique of Korea's private education competition. Sky Castle became a major cable hit, and Kim's performance made her face familiar to a much wider audience nationally. In 2020, she joined Kingdom's second season as Queen Consort Cho, a member of the Haewon Cho clan who protects her position at court while the Joseon kingdom confronts a spreading undead plague. The character is not merely a palace antagonist: the season reveals her ruthless effort to secure succession through a newborn heir. She played Song Yi-kyung, initially introduced as an apparently ordinary university student and later exposed as the serial killer known as K. Opposite Lee Young-ae's former police officer Koo Kyung-yi, Yi-kyung engineers deaths to resemble accidents and turns her pursuit into a contest of surveillance, deception, and moral performance. The role earned Kim the Best New Actress award in the television category at the 58th Baeksang Arts Awards in 2022. Her win recognized a performance that concealed K's violence behind shifting identities and carefully staged encounters throughout. In Disney+'s 2024 action thriller A Shop for Killers, Kim leads as Jeong Ji-an, a college student whose uncle, Jeong Jin-man, dies and leaves her targeted by armed attackers. Adapted from Kang Ji-young's novel The Killer's Shopping Mall, the series follows Ji-an as she discovers that Jin-man, played by Lee Dong-wook, operated a covert weapons marketplace. Flashbacks show him training her for danger after her parents' deaths, while the present-day plot places her inside his fortified house against hired killers. The role made Kim the narrative's viewpoint and required her to carry the mystery of Jin-man's past and Ji-an's immediate survival.
