Jamie Dornan is a Northern Irish actor whose work spans television, independent films and major studio releases. Born on 1 May 1982 in Holywood, County Down, he attended Methodist College Belfast. Before acting became his main career, he worked as a model, appearing in campaigns for Calvin Klein, among other fashion brands. He also performed in the folk duo Sons of Jim with David Alexander.

His first film role was Count Axel von Fersen in Sofia Coppola’s *Marie Antoinette* (2006), starring Kirsten Dunst. On television, he played Sheriff Graham Humbert, a character connected to the Huntsman, in the first season of *Once Upon a Time*. His breakthrough dramatic role came in the crime series *The Fall*, which ran from 2013 to 2016. Dornan played Paul Spector, a serial killer pursued in Belfast by Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson, played by Gillian Anderson. The role earned him a nomination for the BAFTA Television Award for Leading Actor.

Dornan reached a much wider film audience as Christian Grey in *Fifty Shades of Grey* (2015), opposite Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele. He returned for *Fifty Shades Darker* (2017) and *Fifty Shades Freed* (2018), completing the trilogy adapted from E. L. James’s novels. Between those releases, he played Jan Kubiš in *Anthropoid* (2016), a historical drama about the Czechoslovak operation to assassinate Nazi official Reinhard Heydrich. Cillian Murphy played Kubiš’s fellow operative, Jozef Gabčík. Dornan later portrayed photographer Paul Conroy in *A Private War* (2018), alongside Rosamund Pike as war correspondent Marie Colvin.

His later roles have ranged from comedy to mystery. In *Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar* (2021), he played Edgar Paget and performed the musical number “Edgar’s Prayer.” In Kenneth Branagh’s *Belfast* (2021), he played Pa, the father of a boy growing up as the Troubles begin in 1969. The film’s family story draws on Branagh’s childhood, and Dornan received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his performance. He then led the television series *The Tourist*, playing a man who wakes in an Australian hospital without his memory; its second season moves the story to Ireland. In 2023, he appeared in the action film *Heart of Stone* and played Dr Leslie Ferrier in Kenneth Branagh’s Agatha Christie adaptation *A Haunting in Venice*. Across these projects, Dornan has moved between a globally recognized franchise and roles rooted in crime, wartime history and Northern Irish family life.
