Incredibles 2, released by Pixar in 2018, resumes the Parr family's superhero story immediately after the first film's climactic battle. Rather than opening with a new origin, the sequel shows the family confronting the Underminer, whose drilling machine escapes beneath Municiberg. Unlike its predecessor's more unified family adventure, the sequel divides action between Helen's assignment and Bob's increasingly chaotic household routine. Michael Giacchino returned to compose the score, extending musical ideas from the first film while supporting the sequel's superhero campaign. Pixar's animation emphasizes expressive cloth, hair, and effects, particularly in Elastigirl's motorcycle chase and Jack-Jack's rapidly changing demonstrations of power. Released in the United States on June 15, 2018, Incredibles 2 became Pixar's twentieth feature film and a commercial success. It earned more than one billion dollars worldwide, making it the first animated film to cross that box-office threshold at release.
