Ward of Lights would be particularly beneficial in a control or tempo deck that seeks to disrupt opponents' strategies while maintaining board presence. Its ability to provide flash and force an opponent to sacrifice their creature can be powerful in response to key threats. However, there are arguably better options depending on the specific needs of the deck; for instance, Path to Exile or Swords to Plowshares offer more immediate removal without the drawback of sacrificing, while Ethereal Absolution provides both removal and a buff to your creatures. Overall, while Ward of Lights has its niche, it may not see widespread play compared to these more efficient options.

The sacrifice occurs only if you cast it using its own ability. If you cast it using some other effect (for instance, if it gained flash from Vedalken Orrery), then it won’t be sacrificed.
