Andor

Star Wars prequel series starring Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, created by Tony Gilroy, chronicling the Rebel Alliance's formation before Rogue One

Andor is a Star Wars television series created by Tony Gilroy for Disney+. It follows Cassian Andor, the Rebel intelligence officer played by Diego Luna, during the years before Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Rather than beginning with Cassian as an established rebel, the first season traces his movement from a wary, self-interested survivor into someone willing to commit himself to resistance against the Galactic Empire. Season one premiered on Disney+ on September 21, 2022, and consists of twelve episodes. Its opening story is set in 5 BBY, five years before the Battle of Yavin. Cassian returns to his home world of Ferrix after killing two corporate security officers on Morlana One. The resulting manhunt draws in Imperial authorities, the Preox-Morlana security force, and rebel organizer Luthen Rael, played by Stellan Skarsgård. Luthen recognizes Cassian’s usefulness and takes him from Ferrix after a violent raid. The season intercuts Cassian’s present with memories of his childhood on Kenari and his adoption by Maarva Andor, portrayed by Fiona Shaw. On Aldhani, Cassian joins a rebel cell preparing to steal the Imperial garrison’s quarterly payroll. The heist supplies the rebellion with money but brings severe consequences for its participants. The Empire responds through legislation and escalating surveillance, while Imperial Security Bureau supervisor Dedra Meero, played by Denise Gough, pursues Cassian and Ferrix as clues to Luthen’s network emerge. Kyle Soller plays Syril Karn, a disgraced former corporate officer whose fixation on Cassian drives much of his story. Genevieve O’Reilly reprises her role as Mon Mothma, depicting the future Rebel leader as she covertly finances resistance while navigating Chandrilan politics and family pressures. Cassian is later arrested on Niamos and sent to the Imperial prison facility on Narkina 5. There he works assembling components under the command of prisoners and guards. Andy Serkis appears as Kino Loy, a floor manager who becomes central to the prisoners’ escape. The Narkina storyline culminates in a revolt after the inmates learn that release is largely an illusion. The finale returns Cassian to Ferrix for Maarva’s funeral, where her posthumous recorded speech helps ignite an uprising against Imperial control. Cassian then seeks out Luthen and offers himself to the cause. A post-credits scene reveals prisoners building components for the Death Star, linking the series directly to Rogue One. Season two premiered on Disney+ on April 22, 2025, and concluded May 13, 2025, portraying the four years before Yavin.
