
Rebecca Ferguson is a Swedish actor born on 19 October 1983, in Stockholm. Her mother, Rosemary Ferguson, is English, and Ferguson spent part of her childhood in England. She grew up in Stockholm’s Vasastan district and attended an English language school. At thirteen, she began modeling, appearing in advertisements and magazines. Her screen work included the Swedish soap opera Nya tider, in which she played Anna from 1999 to 2000. She subsequently appeared in the American television soap Ocean Ave., produced in Sweden, as Chrissy in 2002. These credits preceded the internationally visible roles that eventually made her widely recognized. Ferguson drew major attention as Elizabeth Woodville in BBC One’s 2013 historical miniseries The White Queen, adapted from Philippa Gregory’s Cousins’ War novels. Her performance brought a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film. In 2015, she joined the Mission: Impossible series as Ilsa Faust, an MI6 agent, in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. She returned as Ilsa in Fallout (2018) and Dead Reckoning Part One (2023). Working opposite Tom Cruise, Ferguson performed a physically demanding role that became central to the franchise’s later installments. She also played the Rose the Hat in Doctor Sleep. In The Greatest Showman (2017), Ferguson portrayed Swedish soprano Jenny Lind, whose appearance is pivotal to Barnum’s commercial ambitions. Loren Allred’s vocals were used for Lind’s songs in the film, while Ferguson acted the role. She played astronaut Riya in the science fiction thriller Life (2017), alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds. In Florence Foster Jenkins (2016), she appeared as Kathleen Weatherley, the mistress of Hugh Grant’s St. Clair Bayfield. Her films include The Snowman (2017), Reminiscence (2021), and 2019’s adaptation of Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep. In the latter, she led a cult called the True Knot that hunted children. Ferguson played Lady Jessica Atreides in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune (2021), adapted from Frank Herbert’s novel. Jessica is the Bene Gesserit concubine of Duke Leto Atreides and mother of Paul Atreides. Ferguson reprised the part in Dune: Part Two (2024), which follows Paul’s alliance with the Fremen on Arrakis. On television she stars as engineer Juliette Nichols in Silo, Apple TV+’s adaptation of Hugh Howey’s Wool novels. The series begins with Juliette investigating the death of George Wilkins inside a silo. Ferguson is also an executive producer on the series, which premiered in 2023. Her work spans Swedish and international productions.
