Lewis Pullman

Lewis Pullman, born January 29, 1993, is an American actor whose screen career has moved from independent dramas to major studio franchises and television. He is the son of actor Bill Pullman and modern dancer Tamara Hurwitz, and grew up with two siblings, Maesa and Jack. Before concentrating on acting, Pullman played drums and attended Warren Wilson College in North Carolina, where he studied social work. His early credits included shorts and independent features, notably the western The Ballad of Lefty Brown, which paired him onscreen with Bill Pullman and Peter Fonda after its 2017 premiere. Pullman attracted broader attention in Drew Goddard’s 2018 neo-noir thriller Bad Times at the El Royale. As Miles Miller, the anxious young concierge at a once-fashionable hotel straddling the California–Nevada border, he shared the ensemble with Jeff Bridges, Cynthia Erivo, Dakota Johnson, Jon Hamm, and Chris Hemsworth. Miles’s identity and loyalties become central to the film’s shifting mysteries. That same year, Pullman appeared in The Strangers: Prey at Night as Luke, one of the family members targeted by masked intruders at an isolated trailer park. In 2022, he played Lieutenant Robert “Bob” Floyd, the quiet weapons systems officer assigned to the F/A-18F two-seat aircraft flown by Lieutenant Natasha “Phoenix” Trace, in Joseph Kosinski’s Top Gun: Maverick. Bob joins the Navy aviators assembled by Tom Cruise’s Pete “Maverick” Mitchell for a dangerous low-level mission against an unsanctioned uranium-enrichment facility. The film became a major box-office success, and Pullman’s character earned the nickname “Bob” from the initials of “Robert Floyd,” according to dialogue in the film. In Apple TV+’s 2023 limited series Lessons in Chemistry, adapted from Bonnie Garmus’s novel, Pullman portrayed Calvin Evans, a gifted but socially isolated chemist at Hastings Research Institute. Calvin recognizes Elizabeth Zott’s scientific ability when other researchers dismiss her, and their relationship changes both characters’ lives. He acted opposite Brie Larson, who played Elizabeth. Pullman subsequently starred as writer Ben Mears in the 2024 film Salem’s Lot, Gary Dauberman’s adaptation of Stephen King’s novel. The story sends Ben back to Jerusalem’s Lot, Maine, where he investigates a growing vampire threat. He was also cast as Robert Reynolds, also called Sentry, for Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts*, placing him alongside Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, and David Harbour’s Red Guardian. The role marked his entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the film’s 2025 release worldwide.
