Withering Curse fits best in midrange or control decks that can reliably gain life—such as Orzhov (white-black) or mono-black shells using lifelink creatures, drain effects (like *Sheoldred, the Apocalypse* or *The Meathook Massacre*), or incidental life gain from spells—because it functions either as an early sweeper against aggro (-2/-2 clears tokens and small creatures) or as a full board wipe if you’ve gained life that turn. Decks built around stabilizing the board and grinding value would benefit most, especially in creature-heavy metas. However, there are generally stronger and more consistent options: *Damnation* (or *Wrath of God* in white) is a more reliable unconditional sweeper; *Toxic Deluge* is more flexible and scalable; and *The Meathook Massacre* offers both a scalable wipe and life-drain synergy.
