Phoebe Dynevor is an English actor whose breakthrough came as Daphne Bridgerton in Netflix’s period drama *Bridgerton*. Born on 17 April 1995, she grew up in a family connected to British television: her mother, Sally Dynevor, has long played Sally Metcalfe on *Coronation Street*, and her father, Tim Dynevor, is a screenwriter.

Dynevor began acting professionally as a teenager. In 2009, she appeared as Siobhan Mailey in the BBC school drama *Waterloo Road*. She went on to play Lauren in *Prisoners’ Wives*, Martha Cratchit in the BBC’s *Dickensian*, and Lotti Mott in the crime series *Snatch*. Her television work also included a recurring role as Clare in the American comedy-drama *Younger*. Those parts preceded the role that brought her a much wider international audience.

*Bridgerton* premiered on Netflix on 25 December 2020. Its first season follows Daphne, the eldest Bridgerton daughter, through London’s Regency-era marriage market. Her arrangement with Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings, played by Regé-Jean Page, is meant to improve her prospects while discouraging unwanted attention toward him. Their plan becomes the centre of a romance shaped by family expectations, reputation and the anonymous gossip writer Lady Whistledown. The season draws on Julia Quinn’s novel *The Duke and I*. Dynevor returned as Daphne for the show’s second season, which shifted its main romantic storyline to her brother Anthony.

After *Bridgerton*, Dynevor played another woman navigating a very different set of expectations in *The Colour Room*. The 2021 film tells the story of Clarice Cliff, the British ceramic artist known for her boldly coloured pottery. Dynevor portrayed Cliff as she pursued creative opportunities in an industry that offered women limited authority. She also appeared in the 2023 British film *Bank of Dave*, based on the campaign by Burnley businessman Dave Fishwick to establish a community bank.

In *Fair Play*, Dynevor took the lead role of Emily, an analyst at a New York investment firm who is secretly in a relationship with her colleague Luke, played by Alden Ehrenreich. Chloe Domont’s thriller premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival before its Netflix release. A promotion for Emily disrupts the couple’s relationship, making workplace competition and resentment central to the film. The role marked a sharp departure from Daphne Bridgerton’s Regency setting, while continuing Dynevor’s run of characters whose ambitions are constrained by the expectations around them.
