Justin Bieber was born March 1, 1994, in London, Ontario, and grew up in Stratford with his mother, Pattie Mallette. Mallette uploaded videos of her son singing covers to YouTube, where manager Scooter Braun discovered him in 2007, aged thirteen. Braun arranged an audition for Usher, and Bieber subsequently signed with Island Records in 2008 before releasing his single, “One Time.”
My World 2.0 debuted at number one on Billboard 200, making him the youngest solo male artist there since 1963. The album's success produced “Baby,” featuring Ludacris, whose video became one of YouTube’s most viewed music videos, despite polarized reception. Bieber’s first concert film, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, premiered in 2011 and documented preparations for his 2010–2011 world tour.
He later shifted toward a more mature sound on Believe, released in 2012, and its single “Boyfriend” reached number two. In 2015, Bieber joined Skrillex and Diplo on “Where Are Ü Now,” winning his first Grammy for Best Dance Recording. His 2015 album Purpose followed, led by “What Do You Mean?”, “Sorry,” and “Love Yourself,” all major international hits worldwide. Purpose also established Bieber’s songwriting collaboration with Ed Sheeran on “Love Yourself,” a largely acoustic, pointed breakup song released worldwide.
In 2019, he married Hailey Baldwin, now Hailey Bieber; the couple held a wedding ceremony in South Carolina in September. Bieber paused much of his touring after revealing physical and mental-health struggles, including his 2020 diagnosis of Lyme disease publicly. He released Changes in 2020, an R&B-influenced album centered on romantic commitment and featuring “Yummy” and “Intentions” as released singles.
The following year brought Justice, whose “Peaches” became Bieber’s eighth number-one Billboard Hot 100 single, featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon. Justice also included “Anyone” and “Hold On,” while its “MLK Interlude” incorporated Martin Luther King Jr.’s 1967 speech on equality. In 2022, Bieber sold his music rights catalog to Hipgnosis for a reported $200 million covering roughly 290 songs overall.
Bieber’s career has repeatedly connected internet discovery with pop machinery beginning with homemade videos and expanding into tours, endorsements, and collaborations. His image evolved from teenage heartthrob to adult songwriter, while his releases continued balancing confessional themes, polished production, and accessibility. Across those eras, awards include Grammys, American Music Awards, and Billboard honors, reflecting chart performance rather than a musical identity. Bieber’s trajectory runs from Stratford covers to influential contemporary pop releases, with specific collaborations and commercial milestones defining each stage.
